A Chair for Outdoors 2005

This chair explores the way a piece of furniture might subtly delimit an expansive outdoor space; a big sky unobstructed by anything but the horizon, as one might find on the Great Plains, for example; or the way cathedrals used to dare skyscrapers to penetrate the sky, linking the ground to everything above it. This chair explores the ways an object can direct the viewer towards features that are both  "interior" and "exterior"  at the same time. The effect works because the  edges are just within the peripheral vision of the viewer,  composing the viewer's experience by opening up the frame without abandoning the frame completely.
